Blue Sapphire Rings

Jewelry is something almost every woman adores. Having several rings, bracelets and pendants in her wardrobe allows a woman the versatility to change her look with just the addition of an accessory. With the affordability of many types of gemstones women are now looking at higher quality jewelry pieces.

Blue sapphire rings fit right into that category. They are stunning to look at and their price can fit almost any budget.

When you are shopping for blue sapphire rings the first thing you’ll notice is how varied the selection is. There are many different designs each has its own special appeal. Depending on your own sense of style you won’t have much trouble finding one to fall in love with.

A very attractive design in blue sapphire rings is the stack ring. This is a very thin ring that generally contains several small sapphires in a row. It can also have diamonds on the band. Stack rings are so appealing because they are designed to be worn with other stack rings. Some women choose to purchase a sapphire, ruby or diamond stack rings to be worn together. Another benefit of buying stack rings is that you can change your look day to day just be alternating the rings or wearing one at a time.

Blue sapphire rings that feature a solitaire stone in the center are also a great choice. These come in many different sizes depending on your preference and your budget. A very traditional look is to have an oval shaped sapphire stone surrounded by small diamonds. These types of blue sapphire rings are often worn as engagement rings. Many brides don’t want to go with the standard diamond solitaire and instead opt for blue sapphire rings.

One of the things you want to consider when you are thinking of buying blue sapphire rings is the setting. Although most people decide on a 10kt or 18kt gold setting, there are many other choices. Sterling silver blue sapphire rings are stunning. The silver balances the deep blue of the sapphire and with the cost of silver this can be a great choice if you are looking to spend less money.

Platinum blue sapphire rings are also available. Although these are more expensive they make a wonderful gift for a special woman.

Sapphire is the birthstone for the month of September and if you are considering buying jewelry for a woman born that month than take a look at some blue sapphire rings. Not only will she love the fact that you bought her a ring she’ll be touched that you recognized it was her birthstone.

Black Pearl Earrings

Every piece of jewelry has a story. Black pearl earrings typically tell a tale of intrigue and sophistication. You can almost hear these precious gems whispering stories of being formed deep in a shell. They emerge after developing into the perfect, dark spheres that are sought after by pearl harvesters around the globe.

The transition from the protective shell may have left what were to become the black pearl earrings a little overwhelmed. These dark orbs overwhelmed me as well when I opened the small gift box that housed them. I have to admit that this was one of the finest gifts I have ever received.

The black pearl earrings were not initially worn by me. My husband found them at an estate sale and he couldn’t stop staring at them. He thought that they would be the perfect gift for our anniversary and he was absolutely correct. I was speechless when I saw them and I have been wearing them ever since.

The only drawback to wearing black pearl earrings is that you have to make sure that they are easily seen. I have long hair and the small gem stones seemed to disappear under locks of hair. This problem is easily solved by arranging my hair around them but this can take a little extra time and this is a very small price to pay considering the comments of admiration I receive each time I sport the black pearl earrings.

I discovered that the jewelry was part of an estate so I decided to do a little homework. It turns out that the gems were owned by a Scottish lady during the turn of the 20th century. The original owner of the black pearl earrings was a descendant of Mary, Queen of Scots.

This royal descendant had a daughter who moved to the United States during World War I. The black pearl earrings came to the New World as well and settled in a small town near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This descendant of Mary had no daughters but she presented the black pearl earrings as a gift to her daughter-in-law.

The daughter-in-law kept the black pearl earrings for the rest of her life but sadly, she didn’t have children of her own. The jewelry became part of the estate sale my husband attended. I keep the black pearl earrings along with Ann’s story. I think that her legacy should accompany the jewelry. After all, Ann did take such good care of them for so many years.
